2016 was a whirlwind! We welcomed a beautiful baby girl into our family in March, and by May I was photographing a wedding at The Villa in San Juan Capistrano. Then, it was back to work full time before I knew it. There have been so many wonderful blessings throughout the year, but boy did the end of 2016 kick my butt! I definitely underestimated how hard it would be to keep up a crazy busy photograhy schedule along with having a new baby at home. Ty deserves a Husband of the Year award for taking over many nights when I was busy editing! Even Dylan helped out more than she probably should have with entertaining her little sister while Mommy worked. She begged me to stop working around the holidays (insert Mommy guilt here). So, I literally unplugged my computer as soon as I sent out the last gallery of photos, and haven’t turned it back on until today. Thank you all for your patience as I made myself take some much-needed time off. I feel refreshed and even antsy to get back to photography…with a ton of new ideas I can’t wait to bring to life! :) Since I didn’t blog a single Fall session, you’ll be seeing a lot of those in the coming weeks. Also, the ‘Best of 2016’ Contest will be coming soon. Until then, here are a few of our own family photos taken by the amazingly talented Christie Hobson. I’m so thankful she captured this special time for us. Photography is truly a gift…a way to freeze precious moments in a life that is constantly moving faster and faster. Here’s to an amazing 2017, and remembering to slow down every once in a while to enjoy the wonderful people around us.
Oh how I miss summer. I get it, it’s still hot here. BUT, the non-stop schedules coupled with the colds and flus that are already going around, have me wishing it was still summer! This session at the end of summer was one of my favorites because of the people I shared it with. Aside from being the nicest family on the planet, the kids get cuter and cuter every year while the parents never seem to age. I want to know their secret! Here are a few favorites from our Laguna Beach summer session…
This was the first year Dylan was nervous about going back to school, not that she’d ever admit it. Starting about two nights ago, she couldn’t fall asleep. When I went in her room to talk about the start of her third grade year, she’d slowly pull the sheet over the majority of her face. Only her eyes were peeking out over the top, like she was watching a horror movie. I remember that exact same feeling…wondering what your teacher would be like, if you would be able to find your friends at recess, who you would sit next to at lunch, or even if anyone would be nice to you at all! I know all those jitters will go away as soon as she sees her friends, but I wish I could be there all day to make sure everything goes her way. Heck, I wish I could be there all year! Here’s to all the Moms and Dads sending their kids off to school and to our sweet little ones on their first day back. May it be the best year yet!
…and because she is OBSESSED with all this darn poop emoji stuff, we had to bring this along! :)
It seemed only fitting that my last session before my own maternity leave would be a sunset maternity session. Carrying a baby is such a beautiful time in a woman’s life (when forgetting about the nausea, tiredness and plethora of other symptoms!), and I was so happy to capture this time for such an amazing family. Gage is expecting a little brother soon, and I can’t wait to photograph them together and see their love grow over the years!
As of yesterday, I am now 39 weeks pregnant! I’ve been ‘nesting’ at home and also organizing my business including backing-up hard drives and getting ready for a fresh start when I return to work in a few months. One thing I noticed (aside from not blogging the entire fall season) is that I never did the ‘Best of 2015 Contest’ at the beginning of this year! I’m so sorry as I know many of you look forward to the opportunity to win a free mini session along with other goodies! So, while I have a few more free moments, let’s do it! Please see below for details about this year’s contest…
It’s time for the Best of 2015 Photo Contest! It’s always so much fun looking back at all of the amazing sessions that took place over the past year, and SO incredibly hard to choose which photos to include. Thank you all for being a part of this fun and crazy business of mine! I truly appreciate you asking me back year after year, and am offering some fun prizes as a special thank you to you all. :)

I love, love, love seeing this family every year! The kids seemed so much this time around, but were as cute and fun as always (and I love that Emma has turned into my own little personal assistant)! :) This year’s session was at the South Coast Botanic Garden which I had never been to before and have to thank Kelly for finding. It was the perfect backdrop for our morning playdate!
It’s always such honor to be asked to document a couple’s wedding day. The love that surrounded Don and Kelly on this day was simply beautiful. They were married at the San Diego Botanic Garden, which proved to be a gorgeous backdrop for every. single. photo. Kelly amazed me with how calm she seemed to be throughout the day, and everytime I looked at Don he had a huge smile on his face! Clearly, they were both excited to become husband and wife. As the wedding flowed into the evening hours, there were speaches filled with tears, loud outbursts of laughter, and lots of dancing! Thank you to this entire amazing family for allowing me to be a part of such a special day. XO!
I’ve known Aly since college, but haven’t seen her in many years. So it was so amazing to not only see her again, but to meet her husband and three children! Life has definitely changed just a little bit since when we would hang out back at the sorority house…for the better! :) It was wonderful to see you all and I hope you enjoy your images…
To answer your questions in advance: Yes, this Mom really has four kids and still looks this amazing…and No, it isn’t fair! :)
It had been raining off and on all day and was actually raining just about 20 minutes before the beginning of our session. I thought we were going to have to cancel, but then the sun started to peek through the clouds and we had the most beautiful light for our afternoon together. I can’t believe how lucky we got with the weather!
All I can say is beautiful light + a beautiful family = 1 happy photographer! Thank you J Family for allowing me to photograph you all again this year!!!
